Why So Critical?

I LOVE romance novels. I've loved romance novels since I was probably too young to be reading romance novels and I'll defend the genre to the death when people try to dismiss it as a whole, but....

More and more as I've been continuing to read the genre as an adult who tends to pick apart the why's of loving or hating something, I've really started to acknowledge what makes a romance novel great for me and what makes one fall flat - or even what makes one absolutely infuriating. I wanted to create a blog to explore that, to delve into why I love the books I love, what really makes them stand out for me, and the things that make me want to throw them at the wall (which I have literally done with a few books throughout the years.)

So.... Why am I so critical of a genre that I claim to love so much? Because I love it when it's great, but when it's bad... it's just so bad!
